Where Fire Meets Water, Healing Begins.

Every point, every rotation, every breath of this method comes back to one relationship: fire and water working together. This is a four-part online journey into the science, symbolism, and technique of Three Treasures Daoist Moxibustion, sharing knowledge and encoded teachings never before transmitted.

  • Restoring a Lost Dimension of Classical Medicine

For centuries, Daoist practitioners paired acupuncture with a precise system of moxibustion — specific points, rotational technique, and ancient numerology used together to move Yang Qi (陽氣) through the body. The Three Treasures Method was created to help restore that missing dimension of classical medicine.

  • Medicine for the Practitioner and for the People

Although this method would greatly benefit a practitioner for clinical results, no license is required to join this training. It's suited to patients for whom needling may not be the ideal first choice, and just as suited to everyone who want to bring effective moxibustion into their own homes — for themselves and the people they love.

  • Taught by the People Who Studied It Firsthand

In September 2024, Dr. Kelly Jennings joined Dr. Heiner Fruehauf and dozens of practitioners on a pilgrimage to Qichun (蘄春) — birthplace of Li Shizhen — to study directly with the Daoist lineage holders of this method. That transmission is made available for you to access from wherever you are: four live sessions, taught directly by the people who studied it firsthand.

The Online Series is taught by Dr. Kelly Jennings and Dr. Heiner Fruehauf

Heiner Fruehauf

PhD, LAc

Heiner Fruehauf is a sinologist, professor, and pioneering voice in the preservation of Classical Chinese Medicine. Born into a German family of doctors specializing in natural healing — with roots tracing to a student of Sebastian Kneipp, a father of the European nature cure movement — he earned his PhD in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago in 1990.

Beyond his academic training, he pursued the classical roots of Chinese medicine outside the standard TCM system, including two years of post-doctoral training under Deng Zhongjia, one of China's leading experts in classical medicine, and further study in Daoist medicine and Qigong. His translations and commentaries are widely recognized for bridging scholarship with clinical application, and he has published widely since 1992.

He taught at what is now the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, where he founded the School of Classical Chinese Medicine. In private practice, he treats difficult and recalcitrant diseases, including cancer, heart disease, and chronic digestive disorders. He is the founder of ClassicalChineseMedicine.org.

Kelly Jennings

Naturopathic Doctor, Acupuncturist, Herbalist, Ritual Space Creator

Dr. Kelly Jennings blends neuroscience with naturopathic, Chinese, and herbal medicine, working at the intersection of ancient healing technologies and contemporary science. Her mission is to demystify medicine and return it to the people it was always meant to serve — investigating what earlier traditions understood about healing that our current model of complex, chronic disease may need to remember.

She graduated valedictorian from NUNM after studying neuroscience at Amherst College, and is a practitioner and teacher of Qi Gong in the Jinjing Gong lineage — Nourishing Life Qi Gong. Dr. Jennings has traveled to China several times to receive direct transmission of her training in Daoist moxibustion and Classical Chinese Medicine, and her work is further informed by two decades of study with indigenous grandmothers and healers across the Mayan, Moshica, Lakota, and Quechua traditions. She maintains a private naturopathic and Chinese medicine practice in the Hudson Valley of New York.

What you'll learn

Four online sessions. From the curious layperson to the seasoned practitioner, this training was built to astound and to work.

  • The Missing Organ System. Step into the cutting edge of Western science with a close look at the interstitium — the recently mapped fluid network some researchers now call the body's "missing organ." You'll see how this discovery echoes what classical Chinese medicine has known for millennia about the body's subtle, connective terrain.

  • How Yang Qi Structures Water. Explore the physics of infrared radiation — what the ancients called Yang Qi — and how it organizes water at a cellular level. This is where biophysics and classical theory meet: heat, structure, and the living water that moves through every tissue you'll ever treat.

  • The Numerology Beneath the Medicine. Gain real footing in the esoteric numerology systems woven through Chinese medicine — not as abstract symbolism, but as a working framework the classical physicians used to organize diagnosis and treatment. This is knowledge most practitioners never receive.

  • Why Qichun Moxa Is Different. Learn to distinguish moxa sourced from Qichun from commercial alternatives, and understand why quality and proper aging aren't details — they're central to whether this medicine actually works the way the classics describe.

  • When Fire Meets Water. Examine the therapeutic encounter of Fire and Water through their corresponding hexagrams, and experience directly what happens in the body when these two forces are brought into relationship through moxa.

  • A Simple Technique for Complex Disease. Walk away with one profound, teachable technique — elegant in its simplicity — for addressing the complex, chronic conditions that define so much of contemporary illness.

This is medicine for the people.

This Daoist method will teach you how to direct Yang Qi into the waters of the body. It's simple to learn and profound in its effects. Learn why this ancient technology is so fitting for our complex modern times.

FAQ

  • Who is the training program for? Does it offer CEUs?

We may offer CEUs for future moxa programs, but CEUs are not available for this program. Anyone called to study genuine, unmodernized traditional healing arts; Acupuncturists, herbalists, bodyworkers; Yoga teachers and wellness practitioners; Family caregivers and anyone drawn to self-care. This is medicine for the people.

  • Will I really walk away from the 4 online sessions knowing how to practice this?

You'll leave with the full three-point protocol — the diagnostic method, the point selection, and the He Tu/Luo Shu/Zhong Tu technique itself — taught directly by Dr. Kelly Jennings who studied it firsthand in Qichun. Many participants find that's enough to start practicing, on their patients, themselves and the people they love. For those who want to go deeper with hands-on guidance, please join one of the retreat-style practicums.

  • Is this the same as the in-person practicum, or do I need to do both?

This Online Series stands on its own — you'll learn the full theory and technique directly from Dr. Fruehauf (Session 1) and Dr. Jennings (Sessions 1-4) over four live sessions. The in-person or Zoom practicum is a separate, optional next step for anyone who wants hands-on, paired practice under direct supervision. We offer a Three Treasures Daoist Moxibustion certificate to those who've completed both.

  • What does "Three Treasures" refer to in this course?

Two classical frameworks — and you'll learn both. The Three Treasures (Jing, Qi, Shen) are the resources every treatment is working with. The technique itself is built on a related framework in pinyin "San Cai", the Three Powers — Heaven, Earth, and Human — expressed as three points in the protocol you'll learn. Think of the Three Powers as the how, and the Three Treasures as the what.
